Exploitative Photos of Collie Butts

At some point in the last month or so, Violet seems to have turned into a Collie. Her Collie hairs are coming in. Her butt looks ridiculous. She has smooth, pretty, lay-down hair in most places, but her butt has poofy, stand-up, fluffy hair that looks so silly. See?

Collie got back. Anyway, the point was that at some point in the last month or so, public comments have shifted from, "Is she...mixed with a Collie?" (from people who don't know Collies) and "Is she a smooth Collie?" (to people who know just enough to be idiots) to "Look, it's Lassie!" (Which is in itself mildly irritating, but I'll let it slide.) Her hair around her neck is coming in so nicely and prettily, and her "mane" is getting quite poofy...but her butt. My goodness it looks silly.

We took her and Swiffer (here on out, known as Dewey - Swiffer was not working) to the pet store and a playground. It's hard to socialize dogs with kids when you don't have any but plan to. So we found a park bench at a very busy playground and did sits, downs, assorted simple commands over the sound of screeching swings, yelling parents, probably 25 kids...they did perfectly. Violet remained in a calm "down" nearly the entire time.

Dewey is up to 10 people on his 100-person checklist. He seems to be bizarrely invisible in public - people just walk on by, or want to pet the Collie and ignore the extremely cute puppy. It's weird, but Halloween should be a great opportunity - Petco has a costume contest, if everything's going well then we'll take him. He has some previous vaccines, but we have his first appointment with our (fantastic) veterinarian on Monday.
