Gladiators

The dogs, they are wild.

Sometimes, when they play, they are like warriors. Like gladiators.

Java is (generally, a few circumstances notwithstanding) so sweetly gentle with Natalie. He is such a big, powerful dog. He could whomp her right in half if he wanted to. Instead, he lays down so they're the same height and "plays" with her. He takes a lot of crap.

Also, I don't know if I've told you, but Natty can be terrifying.

Whaaaaat, you say? Natalie is an Aussie, you say. Natalie is white, you say, and kind of fluffy, and very small. Natalie has pretty blue eyes. Yeah, well...

See if that doesn't pop up in your nightmares.

A Truly Assorted Post

Clouds while I was on campus.

A Walking Dead themed Scrabble game for a premier party a while back.

My cousin Krystal from Michigan came to town! We grew up together and hadn't seen each other in a decade. We met up and had boba.

Birthday Pt...I've lost count, now.

Eric's sweet little cousin's birthday. August and July have been kind of ridiculous in the birthday department!

Couch Company

Recently, an office-space was designated sort of "behind" our living room, in such a way that when I sit at my desk, my left shoulder almost brushes the back of the couch. This arrangement has been great on many levels, one of them being that the dogs have a bigger space to roam around in when I'm on the computer, doing homework, etc., instead of being holed up in the bedroom. I thought through a lot of pros and cons of this new arrangement before moving things around.

However, there was one thing that I somehow failed to even anticipate. It is a thing that I still am not sure if it's a pro or a con.

It's Violet. And Java.

They'd discovered by the end of Day 1 that they could easily gain access to me (my shoulder for head-resting, my food for stealing, my office supplies for inspecting and nosing to the ground, my ear for shoving their tongues into...) by bounding onto the couch and appearing over the back.

This is a geographical advantage that they have exploited to its absolute fullest. In fact, even as I type this, Violet is in the exact position shown above, sniffing my shoulder with great interest. I can only assume that it smells like rain, and college, and the grocery store, and maybe the cold leftover pizza I had for lunch, I guess. Whatever it is, she is transfixed.

This is where they post themselves now. They just stare. So if I follow your blog, please know, so do they. So do they.

Black & White Sunday - Java

His fuzzy ears are kind of a disgrace, but one day I'll trim them up. Probably not today.

Indianapolis Indians vs. Louisville Bats

Two days ago, I went to my first baseball game with my grandparents. Gramps got it in his head quite a while ago and bought the four of us front-row seats. I'd looked forward to it for months, and then the day came and I realized that baseball games last 3+ hours, and I have no idea how baseball even works, so if the novelty wore off quickly, it'd be a long 3+ hours. Everyone said that no one ever goes to these games, blah blah, I was kind of ehh by the time the day came.

Well, as it turned out, the stadium was pretty packed, so we didn't miss out on that baseball game feel. We got a couple of pretzels and a souvenir cup of Pepsi, and though I still don't know how the hell baseball works, it was really fun. The only downside: my camera was dead, and our seats were so great I could've gotten some awesome shots if I'd had it. All I got were cell phone shots.

Gramps on the way there.

Gramps at Victory Field.

We parked in one of our campus parking garages and walked the few blocks there. We passed the Canal on the way there, which amazingly my grandmother had never seen. I said I'd take her picture in front of it and she said "Great. Like a tourist." But she humored me.

Backlighting fail.

As we were leaving, a moth landed on Eric's cup while I was talking to my grandparents. He said later that he was "petting it" for a minute before he realized what he was doing. Once he realized, I guess he thought it was funny and touched my arm with it. I screamed. Moments later, this picture was taken. I look like kind of a freak, but whatever/

By the way, the Indians won. I was kind of sad. As much as I adore Indiana, the Bats were cool.

The Snoozy Chronicles

It has been a very very busy week.

In the mad rush of getting ready for the new semester, starting classes, getting down to the wire on the wedding, raising dogs, aspiring to have a life - well, not really, I'm starting to get snarky comments on Facebook from people who haven't seen us in way too long... sometimes, you crash.
